Brazil - Agua Boa Lodge
The Amazon Basin is the world’s largest freshwater river system and contains about 10 percent of the earth’s supply of freshwater. It is home to thousands of species of jungle fish, but most importantly, the Amazon is the home to the explosive Peacock Bass.

The Fishing

Agua Boa Brazil Fly Fishng for Peacock BassNeedless to say that you will be fishing big flies, big gear, for big fish that will test the limits of not only your tackle but your own personal stamina. The Agua Boa and its tributaries are home to all three species of Peacock Bass: the Butterfly (up to 10 pounds), the Spotted (up to 20 pounds), and the Temensis (up to 24 pounds). Peacocks will chase flies regularly but are really known for their ferocious top water strikes and their voracious attacks on flies giving the angler a true spectacle of how predatory and mean these fish really are. The will put you into your backing, jump end over end and take you into structure so fast you won’t even have time to get your wits about yourself. All fish in the Amazon are constantly looking for prey, always on the hunt, so there are many times you will be fishing areas and have no idea what you will catch on your next cast.

The Agua Boa River is a crystal clear tributary of the Amazon with mostly a white sand bottom providing perfect conditions for sight fishing to the Peacocks. The fishery revolves around the main channels of the river, lagoons, inland lakes and the extensive braids throughout the system so you will have plenty of different fishing scenarios and use various techniques while pursuing the predators of the Agua Boa.

The guides have been trained extensively and you can expect them to be very fly friendly and very experienced within the watershed. They will be, above all, safe, but will guide you through the numerous back channels of the river system, pole you on the flats while sight fishing and make sure you are always in a productive situation to catch fish. Tough fish and tons of fish make the Agua Boa Amazon Lodge a must on any angler’s list.

The setting alongside the river is a combination of rain forest, flooded forest, and savannah with plenty of wildlife that adds to the overall experience you will have in the Amazon . It is common to see tapir, monkeys, manatees, toucans, macaws, anteaters, peccary, agouti and possibly the elusive jaguar. This is truly a jungle experience in a setting that is remote and off the beaten path which also happens to be home to some of the best predator fishing around.

The lodge is a spacious facility that sits on a high bank overlooking a long bend in the river.  With a large dining room, living room, bar and game room, anglers can wind down with a cocktail after an adventurous day of fishing. Play a round of snooker, ping pong, or darts in the Amazon sanctuary.  Also equipped with an entertainment area that has a DVD player and satellite television, 20 meter swimming pool, phone/fax line and a well stocked library.  Air conditioning and 24 hour electricity will keep you comfortable.
