About Castafly Travel
Our Mission:
Castafly Travel’s mission is to open the doors to global fly fishing adventures for passionate anglers by providing multiple levels of experiences that meet individual capabilities in a highly focused manner. Our responsibility is to help you spend more time on the water.
Goals:
Our number one goal is to get you into fish where ever they live on the planet. Check out our wealth of carefully selected destinations. You can bet that some how, some way, we'll get you there if anyone can.
Who is Castafly?
Castafly has been evolving for a number of years. It all started with a familiarization trip taken by The Trout Shop to Turneffe Flats in Belize over 10 years ago. As first time international travelers, we were taken in by the excitement of it all and couldn't wait to go on more adventures.
All of the members of Castafly Travel met and were united by the Missouri River where The Trout Shop is located. We're always looking forward to our next trip. Now, we're ready to take you with us. Opening the doors to global fly fishing adventures is a job that we take very seriously. It's how we make a living and how we fulfill our passion. Since our trip to Turneffe Flats, we've visited a wide variety of fishing destinations, caught a bunch of big fish and have met the right people to form a travel company that exceeds all others in its level of service.
Our Members:
The Trout Shop provides Castafly Travel's product needs. These are the guys who make your dream trip a reality:
Robert Boyce - Travel Coordinator
Robert has lived in Bozeman, MT for the past 15 years and has enjoyed all of the local Montana waters not only for fun but for outfitting as well.
He began his guiding career in Alaska and over the years has become a full service outfitter operating on the waters of Southwest Montana. Coupled with his time living in Montana Robert has also acquired a tremendous amount of experience fishing throughout the world including the destinations and lodges of Alaska, Montana, Russia, Bahamas, Mexico, Belize, BC, Argentina and many others. He enjoys trout first but, the saltwater species haunt him right around the beginning of every winter in Bozeman.
Robert’s enjoyment of outfitting and taking care of your fishing travel needs is not only passionate but contagious and you can rest assured that he will set you up at the right place at the right time.
When Robert is not out on the water or arranging the details of your trip he spends his off time enjoying all of what the Bozeman area has to offer with his wife Katie.
Mike Dougherty - Sales
There are two places that are near and dear to Mike's heart: the Missouri River near Craig, Montana, where he guides each summer season for the West’s biggest and baddest rainbows and browns and the flats of Belize where he chases the fish that dreams are made of; the Permit, the holy grail of saltwater fishing. It seems all the roads he has traveled lead to these ends.
Before that, education, musicianship, and businessman all were worlds that brought him to where he is today. Each year, for many years, he's traveled the sunsets over the North and Central American continents in search of fishing adventure with, as it strangely turns out, those brothers that make up the team of Castafly Travel.
Mike Dougherty is a lifetime fisherman, hunter and ner’-do-well who lives in Montana and Idaho with his wife, Kathleen and their golden retriever, Mac.
Jerry Lappier - Product Management
Born and raised in Minnesota, the cold weather drove Jerry to sunny northern California for his education at California State University, Chico. After graduating from the #1 party school in the United States with a Bachelor of Science degree in Financial Management, he kicked up his heels and headed to the Big Sky state of Montana.
Jerry's first job fresh out of college was as a founding member of The Trout Shop on the banks of the Missouri River in world's best trout town, Craig, MT. Twenty-one years later, he's still co-owner of one of the best fly shops in the west.
While trout in the Missour River have legendary power as far a salmanoids go, the sheer power of saltwater species fulfill his passion. Having fished all over Belize and multiple other Caribbean destinations, Jerry's true home is on an island in the tropics where it's sunny and warm. His wife Karen, and his children Jake and Kelsey are certified scuba divers. The desire to catch big fish and the desire to see how they live has made the Caribbean a family affair.
Kevin Jurgens - Marketing
With a degree in marketing and photography, Kevin spent a good portion of his life in Bend, Oregon as an "ad agency guy", working as a graphic designer for a local shop. A year later, he went out on his own and formed The Garage Inc., quickly a firm of five people, poised to change the "norm" of what had become "boring" in the ad world. Fly fishing photography, however, was in his heart, and inspiration came especially from local friend, Brian O'keefe.
After eight years in the advertising business, Kevin started a web business, fisheyesoup.com, with co-founder, Greg Freeman. Today, Kevin shoots fly fishing photography, tends to fisheyesoup.com's growth, and travels to lodges and fly shops around the globe to aid them in marketing their businesses. His travels have taken him to various places throughout the Caribbean, South America, Central America, New Zealand, and home waters of the U.S. He spends summers on the banks of the Missouri River in MT, and winters in Charleston, SC where he chases the reds on the flats.
